One last update before putting together a color palette for it.

Dropped in some color, but thinking the light blue sky will not work well.

Looks good, Dave. I love the areas where the colour goes to a deeper saturated yellow deep in those feathers.

I think you probably should add some more colours elsewhere in the pic. At the moment it looks harshly divided into a brown block and a light block, especially in the thumbnail. A few more variations in hue will help to unify the space and the subject.

Yeah, I'm seeing that as well. Unfortunately, After choosing the colors for the character, I realized the ground colors would be close to them as well. ... I'm planning to make sure more changes that hopefully will help with this. - Like the BG. After cutting grass, I was waiting for dinner and just started throwing in some random colors in the sky, and also thinking of maybe adding some hints of elements in the distance? ... I'll see where it takes me. Thanks, here's a quick shot of what I mentioned.

You are exactly correct. After putting in the colors for the body, I flipped the tones on the wings (like a negative) to darken them and plan to go back and put in all the shadows where they overlay. (while doing more detailing) I didn't think the lighter wings were working or fit, but yes that means a lot more touch-ups for the feathers, which I'm working on now.

I'm also thinking finishing up the sky first would be beneficial too, since it would help with the cleaning up of the edges of the wings, as well as any bleed through where the while is showing.

Going to a wedding with the wife today, but woke early and trying to work up the BG some. Trying to hint at a couple mountains in the distance and changing some stuff up. Get back to the character once the sky is done.

Lovely sky Dave!! Some real structure to it. I wonder if you could add some colour to the character by hinting at some luminescense (cant spell!) to the feathers. A bit like a crow has that lovely blue highlight to their feathers. Perhaps some reds and greens?
