It's something to do with the sword getting hit by a spell/shout during the fight but I thought it was one of the glitches that was fixed by the patch.

Interesting. Meanwhile my pointy eared follower seems to be problematic during my breaking and entering expeditions. If I am carrying too much and want to pass off some of my stuff to him, he just says "You aren't supposed to be here" like some Working Joe android. I may have to swap him for someone else

I'd better leave him behind then too.

Why doesn't my more informative console (which is now working without disco lights) telling me stuff like that?

I definitely need to replace him then, he's only got one BigAah   

Does SSEEdit let you see that stuff?

I have the equivalent TES Edit and recall seeing lots of complicated info when using it to fiddle with that other mod follower's voice.

I've no idea as I still can't get SSEEdit to work.

Something's not quite right with my game. Again...

Riverwood was attacked by a dragon, and my horse (Frost) went missing. So I fast travelled back to Riverwood just to find him and it worked. But a guard that was most decidedly alive after the dragon attack lay dead in the street. Then I went to Whiterun and just as I entered, a citizen came tumbling down the stairs to the left. A dead citizen. I know my character's a vampire who delights in death, destruction and chaos, but I'm pretty sure she/I didn't cause these deaths...

Well after Banj's warning I ditched Faendal (after getting back my Ebony bow and sword) and switched him out for the nearby Valdimar. Did a quick check in the console and he's Morality 0 so crime is back on the menu.
I also noted that, unlike the pointy eared one, he matches your level. Which is good.
So I took him to Dawnstar and went to the inn to talk to someone about the pirate thing. Yes, talking with my fists again. All of which was slightly interrupted by that woman telling me that she's the best bard EVER! 
Go on then, sing us all a song.

Anyway got distracted by that other guy there who insisted that I follow him. So away we go... Me and Arissa and Valdimar doing the usual walk-run-walk-run-walk-run to match his pace.
 
Keep up, Valdimar. I know you're new to this follower thing but I'm sure you'll play an important role.
We all get to the tower and go in and...

"Your follower cannot accompany you here."

I could have told you that about the tower. Though it probably wouldn't have occurred to me, even if you had said you were going... And I don't think I ever needed to use my fists on that pirate, he always seem quite happy to spill the beans... Also can't even recall the female bard from there, but I know a male bard she might like to meet. He's also the best bard ever. And the best warrior ever. And the most handsomest guy ever. Etc. (And one of the most insufferable NPCs ever, too...)
