I don't recall how much the helmet is worth, it's more the effect it has that's worth having. The stats and effects on the axe are something that would probably lead to it being replaced with a better weapon fairly quickly, even ignoring how rubbish two handing is when dual wielding destroys everything easily.

It was mostly just Barbas that was annoying as a follower. I did have a previous regular dog, but it got itself killed. As I'm a cold, heartless, scummy thief, I had already told myself I wouldn't get attached enough to reload and save any dumb animals that suicided while following me. With Barbas, stealth is impossible, searching things for loot and trying to read books is difficult with him barging you and the objects around, and he's constantly barking... maybe I'll reload that earlier save just to murder him to death 

Isn't Barbas invincible as a follower?

I just didn't like his Noo Yawk accent. That alone made it the worst quest in the game for me.

He is invincible while a follower, yes. You can only kill him when Vile asks you to. I assume. I haven't tried.

And I only got the helmet (and followed the dog) once, and even though I was fairly low level at the time, that helmet was already worse than what I already had... Are the helmet stats supposed to be levelled so it's better if you actually get it later? After all, you are asked to come to Falkreath pretty early in the game...

I had him as a follower because I hadn't been anywhere near where you obtain the axe, so he hung around with me and annoyed me for a while until I went out of my way to go across the country to get it, just so I could get rid of him and end that questline. I don't know about the stats of the helmet, I used it for a while on my other character, mostly It's useful for the speech, magic, and prices buffs you get from wearing it. You can probably level it, but you would need to upgrade your blacksmithing pretty high to be able to do so as it's obviously a magic item.

I meant, it might have better stats if you are higher level when you get it...

Not as far as I am aware. I think all item stats are the same regardless of what level you are.

This fellow is repeatedly trying to swing a sword through my head while I casually walk ahead of him down to the Quartermasters.
 
He even seemed to consume some type of potion or fortifying meal before launching his attack. Don't know why. Did he think I was some kind of high level boss or something?

Found lots and lots of runes tonight though. obviously all those loot farmers from the previous days had gone home. Still didn't find the one I wanted.... until....
About one minute after this screenshot, down the long set of stone steps and off to the left.... OKO!

After that I spent some time doing a bit of crafting for myself to try out those new styles that I'd learnt so I now have even more outfits!

Maybe he's an absolutely hopeless swordsman who thinks he's just missing, so he took a potion to increase accuracy?

Malkoran has a 100% success rate at murdering my followers   This time Lydia was spared due to me accidentally making her the caretaker of my mansion house, and instead Rayya is now deceased, which is a shame because I liked her. She kept quiet, got on with her job and was dual wielding like a sensible person. It was worth it though as I now have two Dawnbreakers  After her death she was replaced with Faendal, because he was available and I already used up his training abilities. So far he is also quiet and just gets on with the job.
