If she's still to be a seer I suppose the open eyes work but I rather think the whole pose works better when she has her eyes closed. It looks more like some sort of mediation/communion thing. Currently I think the trees are encroaching on her a bit much but it might just be the colour. If they're made more desaturated they will seem farther off into the background as well.

Really good to see you're still working on this one and aiming to finish it!

Dom, looking great. I love the closed eye look. The work/shading on the face, hair and upper body are well done.
If I had one suggestion it would be to make her left hand in the same pose as the right. The pointing curve upward would make it look more graceful. But keep going this is coming along nicely. :cheer:

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Made the changes that were suggested as they were all good observations. Now that the hair is smaller I think it looks more natural, but I will need to work to get it to look really nice now. I'll get to it eventually.

It seems to have naturally fallen into thirds too, what with the green canopy, the main character and the grey earthy bit at the bottom. But, I am not sure what to do with the bottom. If I follow the original plan it will be filled with mosses, but that will mean another (largely) green third to the image.

So what do you guys think?

Looking really good, Dom. He face looks great, and put me down for closed eyes as well. (Just fits her) ... Just check her right hand, it isn't reading well right now. Almost looks to be upside-down. (palm up, I mean) and her left foot looks a tad strange. (I know you're still working on it, but thought to mention it.) :)

Look forward to seeing it completed.

Started a portrait. I was very much inspired by Valance's portrait in the White as Snow challenge, so I thought I would try one of my own!

She will eventually have a shock of white hair! So watch this space (if you want!)

You missed a bit! *points to neck* :silly:

More serious crits, I think the shading and values look great already. The face has a very caricaturised shape which is fine if that's what you're going for, but personally I think the eyes end up way too close together... Of course if it's on purpose the shape of the hair - once it's there - should help sell the idea of her head shape.

Nice start, Dom. And agree, Valence's portrait does indeed look great. ... As Charlotte mentioned, the shading and values look good, but I would add her eye looks to be a bit small and low, compared to the socket you have defined with your shading. ... But then again, I also like that she isn't perfect, like so many images are done as. :) Makes her unique! Look forward to watching her progress.

Thanks Charlotte!

Here's the ref, if you wanted to see. She has some unusually pointy features I think, but that is why I chose the image. In this case I wanted to paint a face quickly so that I had a base to paint the hair on.

...and don't all people have a little hole in the neck? :dumb:

Sorry, I seem to have neglected to post the ref up in the end!... Rectified!
