I don't recommend using Blender with a cat o the keyboard :stare:

Now, why does the effing 3D cursor have to move along all three axes every time I try to place it so I can move an items origin to it? Every time I move it to the side (x-axis), it moves backwards or forwards (y-axis). Turn the item/grid sideways and move it back to 0 (y-axis) - it moves almost 2 meters sideways (x-axis). Rinse and repeat. :stare:

Do you have perspective on in the viewport? (Assuming you're talking about Blender.)
Sometimes that messes up the movements of cursors and objects when aligning things.

I've tried both perspective and orthographic (now), and it's the same problem.

So satisfying yet frustrating at the same time.
And you then spend the next few minutes frantically trying to work out what you did differently. :)
