I guess this isn't gaming, exactly... but why do one of my dds files display the dds extension in capital letters when none of the others do? If I try to rename the file, it's shown in lowercase letters and then it returns to capital letters...

My basket also looks kind of lumpy/weird in Blender and I have no idea why. I can't find any setting that would give it a "fake texture" and it also looks super shiny (I think metallic is set to nearly 1) but that doesn't come through in the game, luckily. There's so much I don't get. :dumb:

And I keep reading that "it's so simple" to do that collision thing. You can even write it in yourself. No mention of how, though. And with all of these files, I wish I could copy meshes or or just bits and bobs from one nif to another and it just seems to be impossible because it ends up outside of the original structure/tree and can't be moved into it...

Maybe I'll just play for a bit, again. And hope I don't come across too many of the baskets I made. Not that it's be a problem exactly, since they have no collision
(Oh and I checked and the other basket, Sophies flower basket, that changed textures, it IS set to use the correct texture so I have no idea what's going on... :dumb: )

Have you got a screenshot of what the lumpy shiny looks like?

I do now...

(Never mind the little text bits at the bottom of the basket, it's data stuff from the nif file)

Have you got a normal map applied, and if so, does disabling it get rid of the funkyness?

EDIT - it could also be smoothing issue, or you may have weird geometry inside the mesh.

It does - it has a texture set both to specular and normal, but I can't see any difference when removing either of them. Maybe I should have tried removing both? :hmm:

Edit: Though the "pattern" of the lumpyness does not look like the texture in question. Now what was your edit? *looks*

There shouldn't be weird geometry I don't think - I rebuilt most of it, one side and used solidify faces... (It was easier than adjusting the existing mesh); will have to look at the smoothing options. Maybe it's set to smooth at 100267 degrees.

Well... I unclicked the auto smooth at 30 degrees and now it looks.... normally smooth... :dumb:

By normal do you mean fixed... or just different?

It looks like it normally does when you set auto smooth to 30.

and weirdness continues this day. I dropped an inkwell and a quill to put on my desk in Hjerim, and they disappeared, so I went collision-off to see if I could find them under the floor. Instead I found a chest full of stuff....
Maybe it's supposed to belong to the housecarl? But I'm not sure... I tried googling and didn't find any mention...

I experienced shading weirdness when I imported that modded head nif. Also I couldn't get it to shade smooth at all. Even recaculating the normals did nothing. :dunno:

And (referring to previous posts about dds extensions) I think all file names are not case sensitive not just extensions. Windows shows and remembers both cases but doesn't recognise the difference when you try to change it. If you change the filename to something else and then change it back you can make it lower case again.
