And after googling a bit, when people talk about overwriting they're usually referring to one mod overwriting another, which is a consequence of load order. So maybe I've been misunderstanding all these years. :dumb:

:aha:
And that's just it. The mods that come with loose files - meshes and textures, do not contain any other files, so they can't contain e.g. changes to the ini files... I don't think?

If the mod has both a mesh and a texture then the info for the texture filename may be encoded within the mesh file (I've been reading some stuff about Texture Sets in the Creation Kit) so maybe if the mesh filename is the same as the base game it wouldn't matter if the texture name was different as long as that info is part of the mesh file. :hmm:

Again, this all may be nonsense as I'm speculating on things I don't fully understand. :dumb:

And how would the game know to use the mesh? I think all file names including textures are the same as the original game files except when they add extras... but I mean that some mods are placed in folders that I think the mod creator named, even if the files themselves have the in game names. So I guess Skyrim just knows to look for added content in the data folder? In which case, just knowing file names should be enough to make ones own retextures should one want to. Although having something that is already texture mapped would probably be preferable anyway. I guess CK helps with all such things....

Maybe I should just get a Steam account...
Or play the game, instead :giggle:

Aren't there some other tools that extract meshes and textures from the bsa files? :hmm:
I vaguely recall seeing something like that when watching nifskope tutorials.

Some fool attacked an NPC in the middle of the town and all the guards chased them out. :giggle:
Enjoy whatever bounty that's gonna be. :)

Also someone asked me if I wanted to "group".
Erm.... Noooo. :nope:
Sorry and all but I'm not staying long today, whoever you are. Only really logged in to collect my daily rewards (MMOs! :shakefist: But there is a good one in a couple of days. :excited:)

Anyway I left all that behind cos I'm now off to do an important order in Death Stranding. :stare:
Off to see Mama. :pirate:

MMOs should have a "Do Not Disturb" setting for group invites and the like...

And yes, I'm sure there are extraction tools - but for each thing you might want to do, you seem to need around 5 tools to extract, convert, fix, re-convert, import or the other way around and probably to compile and re-compile too. It's just too much hassle to even read up on.

Well oops.

I can't recall installing any new content yesterday but today (and I am not working due to another headache that was worse earlier) I can't open Skyrim. It shuts down when loading a save.

Except wait... only one save.. I guess I'll just have to go back to an earlier one.

Yesterday one of my characters (the stormcloak) got around to infiltrating the Thalmor embassy, and I donned the modded party clothes I had downloaded. They were supposed to be black and white, but honestly looked more grey. And kind of plain. I thinkk they'll do for a male character maybe, but my girls want something fancier so I tried re-colouring it. Went so so... I think it needs a bit more work (and I should probably have made use of the uppity-upped quality textures I have from another mod... I'll have to think on it until the next character gets there... (Though I deleted most of them, so that might be a while...)

Edit: a few notes to self:
Not happy with the pink (vest/chest)
Not happy with the still greyish pants
Not happy with the decor band at the bottom of the coat/skirt as it turned bright white.
