This doesn't look nearly watery enough to be Subnautica...

I haven't got very far with that.
The big ship just exploded, the "oxygen" voice temporarily stopped saying "oxygen" to tell me I need a radiation suit and when I tried to make one I couldn't because I don't have all the materials and don't even have the blueprint to make one of the materials and therefore don't know the ingredients of that material or where to get that blueprint.

The fibre mesh blueprint suddenly appeared when I cut something, which doesn't make sense to me but...
I'm struggling to find the sandstone thingies that give me the other metals but I've found some cargo things that I can't pick up for some reason even though they look important. Maybe I'll be allowed to pick them up later or maybe not.

Do you have the scanner tool?

I do not.
I have a repair tool, knife, flashlight and quick-up-floaty thing. And the radiation suit.
I'm going to guess that the scanner should be the next thing I should do.
Assuming the blueprint is there.

I wish the annoying oxygen voice would tell me when the radio messages are there.
Anyway today is the last day of the freebie so I'll try to squeeze one more session in later before the cutoff.

The scanner is like one of the first things you should get. It helps you get more blueprints and gives you info on what things are and what they're used for etc. So when you find crates with something in them, you scan that thing to get a blueprint (or part of one) - and if you already have the finished blueprint you get resources...

The blueprint appeared when you cut the vine because that is the main ingredient. Any time you pick up a new crafting material it automatically unlocks the blueprint even if you haven't scanned it. You need the scanner for the scrap metal/cargo stuff.

(also, regarding the radio messages, there's an audio queue and an icon pulsing on the screen when you get one)

It seems the radio icon appears in the same place as my pinned recipes which is why I didn't notice it.

I have scanned lots of things now but not enough to make anything.
I've just heard from lifepod 17 and there's apparently some cave systems down there but it's too deep for my basic oxygen equipment and I'm still having trouble finding silver for some of the other equipment but...
I think my free time is up now after 3 hours.
I might have been able to make a bit more progress if they'd communicated some of the ideas a bit better at the start.

Strange that. I think Subnautica is one of the better planned games in terms of how they guide you to learn things and find things without everything being super obvious...

For me, it remains to be seen if gaming will now work or if I did all the reformatting for nothing... I haven't reinstalled any of the game launchers yet.

Perhaps it was just me being dumb or maybe I was rushing too much to get things done during the limited time of the free trial but I did get stuck on a couple of things and had to look them up online which is always one of my pet peeves as it destroys all the immersion. And the radiation suit was the best example of that, the voice was urgently telling me to craft it when I didn't have the blueprint didn't know how to get it and didn't have any clue about the resources to look for.
But again, probably just me being stoopid.

Maybe you just explored a larger area faster than I usually do. Or maybe I've usually got the scanner by the time the Aurora explodes and you need the suit... I can't really recall. But I usually just avoid that area until I have a suit...
