Thank you all for the kind words! I need to do a little fun portrait of our new addition at some point. As it is, I have started work on the second mythical nursery piece, the jackalope!

I suspect it's a mix between rabbit's paw and deer/antelope hoof but it does look a little froggie like :) I love the pose, it's not just a static portrait!

Any an all misspellings are henceforth blamed on the cats.

Thank you ladies for the thumbs up! The paw is actually just a rabbit's paw, specifically a jack rabbit. Rabbits have surprisingly long back toes! They look a bit froggy now I think because of missing pads and fur. I'm going to do the same Frazetta comic/drawing style with this, but I think the fur might make that very hard! And here I thought the scales on the Kirin were tedious!

You've got to love the wild and wooly jackalope, though his antlers are looking a little wide and flat like a moose. So could it be an even rarer jackooose? :silly:

Congrats on the little ladies arrival! :) She just missed my birthday, which was the 5th.

The Kirin image turned out fantastic, and the new one is coming along nicely as well. Palmate antlers can be found on many creatures of the forest, but they are more commonly seen on moose, fallow deer, etc. as Kodabble mentioned. But I have seen them on whitetails and other members of the cervidae family, though it's just not as common.

I get sketchy around pencils! ...=D

Can't believe I missed that piece of massive news!! I dropped the ball on that one!

CONGRATULATIONS T-Girl!!!! That is wonderful news!!

The Jackalope is ace too. As has been said, the movement with the raised leg adds visual interest and balance to the piece. I think Kodd's reference image is great too. How cute is that guy!!

Keep up all your good work new Mum!!

Everything's on the right!!!

It's like driving abroad!

Thank you all :) Great to hear from you guys once more, I've missed hanging around!

Koddable: It is rather 'moosey', but they are indeed based off of the Fallow Deer's antlers. I have been thinking of trying out an 'atypical' whitetail type as well. My biggest concern was that the antlers may match the Kirin's a bit too much if I went the more 'standard' look. Since the Jackalope is supposed to be a mix of a Jack Rabbit and an Antelope and most people photo doctor it using domestic or common bunnies and whitetail antlers, I figure I can come up with my own combinations as well XD
