Also remind me to not try to make transparent textures with XnConvert.

I could SWEAR I did it on my old computer (like that mule I changed, but it's possible I just never noticed the transparency disappearing as there was nothing transparent ON the mule, just around the texture... I guess I need to hunt that texture down and see. (I also need to put it back in the data folder because I don't like the original texture...)

Anyway, I was "only" gonna do a small thing and mostly for the learning experience and now I'm stuck trying to understand why the hell things don't end up like they should.

Well, I clicked the button to chat to this doctor but she didn't respond so I assumed she didn't have anything to say so I carried on walking to the next room only for her to start the conversation once I was through the door...

 

So now I'm stuck here twisting my neck around trying to hear.
Then Sarah interrupts so I swing the camera around to look at her and... she's not here??
In fact she disappeared the other day when I was recruiting another crew member only for her to instantly reappear when he walked away.
Oh, yes. Did I mention I'm with Sarah again? Well, I am. I didn't mean to be but there was a bit of confusion going on about who I'd assigned to the ship. I'd switched to the robot, Vasco, for a quick mission that I assumed everyone else would "DISLIKE" and then when I went to go back to Andreja she wasn't there on the ship and had teleported back to wherever she goes, in that unassigned way. I was pretty sure I'd assigned her to the ship but apparently, even though this ship can take four crew, I'm not a high enough levelled captain to actually have four crew. So I only have three. Except it's a bit different for Sarah because of her leadership skills. Or something.
Anyway, what it all means is that Andreja went away somewhere and I was stuck with Sarah while I did some undercover pirate action.
I did later get Andreja back on the ship by sending Sam and the Haiku Kid back to... wherever they teleport to. They're probably all back at the Lodge. Maybe Vlad is there too. I went to the Eye to sell him all my survey data but the place was empty.
Memo to self: Go back to the Lodge.

Oh, and I stole another ship.
This was also at an automated farm like the last one.
But unlike the last one this was filled with mercenaries.
I hacked the first one with my samurai sword... ...and then a door opened and I was instantly surrounded by a firing squad. 

*reloads*

But then went back to the sword for the final two baddies.

And after all that... the ship isn't that good.

So I've got this bounty/tracker mission to take down some pirate leader and I decide to go all sneaky for this one and take Andreja with me.
And it's going well.

Sneak. Sneak. Pirate? Samurai sword! And he's dead.
Then another. And another.
Killed six of them so far without anyone knowing that I'm even here.
Then a slight problem.
I sneaked into a big room completely unseen and got in position for another deathly stab but ...erm... I forgot to switch the scanner off and ended up firing the mining laser (which is automatically equipped when you have the scanner on )
So all the baddies in the room saw and heard that, so I had to resort to the shoot out method.
But they're all dead now so I'm back to the sword as I sneak further into their base.
Slash. Stab. Swiiiing! Hack!
That's four more dead without them seeing me. It's going well again.
Now onto the final room containing four more pirates plus the big leader who is twice my level. Better be extra careful.
I open the door.
One of them looks for a moment... but he can't see me.
Keep still... and be patient.
He walks away... ...and I'm still waiting. Crouched in the doorway. Silent. Unseen. Just waiting for that right moment to strike.
I watch all the pirates and note their movement. Working out where they like to stand, how they like to move and plotting how they're going to die.
I am their silent death. I am their doom.
And I am ever patient. Waiting. Just waiting for-

And Andreja sneaks past me into the room for some reason.
What are you doing?? It was going well!!

But it's OK. She's sneaky too. As long as she stays crouched and silent and unseen... we might get away with it. But what is she doing?
She sneaks into the room ahead of me. Stands up! Casually walks around the corner and sits down on one of their chairs!

 

There I am on the other side of the glass being almost invisible while she's kicking back with a cool, "Well how do you do, pirate baddies? You'll never guess what we're here for."

Now I want to know how they reacted to this!

But I am a little worried at your silent observing and scheming skills/murderous tendencies...

Personally I'm still struggling with finding out if there is indeed a way to produce transparent dds files. There should be. There are transparent such files. But maybe xnconvert is the wrong tool? Do I need YET ANOTHER TOOL??? I've tried googling various versions of my issue, and it seems people have complained about these problems since time immemorial. Some have even described solutions, but they don't seem to work for me or not actually be for xnconvert or ...something. I can't make it work. I could be lazy and just skip transparency entirely but then what'd I learn? Besides skipping things that get too difficult?

I think Paint.net lets you import/edit/save dds files, if I remember rightly from my failed attempts at doing a texture in the Witcher game. Maybe?

And we did get away with our sneaking antics. The pirates happened to be at the other side of the room and facing the other way when Andreja did her "thing" and she got up out of the chair and went back to sneaking before they turned round and came back.
Maybe she was taunting them and showing off for my benefit.

Yeah someone on discord recommended paint.net. There's also Gimp but I never could agree with that thing.

Maybe Andreja got fed up standing silently behind you, went in and then realised there were enemies there so she pretended like she didn't make a boo-boo and snuck back out...

Just now I've successfully saved a transparent image as a dds in paint.net and reloaded it back in and the transparency is still there.
But I don't know if it's the right format for textures cos there are loads of possible options.

Gimp does have an Export DDS option too but I can't seem to get that to work right.
