I am attempting to install Elder Scrolls Online.
Obstacles are being placed in the way.
I have climbed over some of them.
Things are being downloaded.
It still says 0%

...I hope this progress bar is not linear.
I've downloaded over 3GB and it still says 0%

EDIT: 1%

Some time tomorrow it will eventually hang at 98% so you'll have to start again. 

Tomorrow? I'm betting by the end of the week...

What do I get if I win?

But it IS a "progress" bar and not a "download" bar.
Even so. The possibility of aborting the whole thing is getting larger.

I could probably use a bit of extra patience...

I'm hoping that you can pause/stop it before it begins downloading the even bigger patch but ... we'll see.

Also, as I can't do anything else on my PC at the moment, I ended up having a look at the ESO forums and... when you finally get to play the game it has login queues??

Progress... 15%

My maths says that the first download should be complete in 30 mins. It should then start "packing" the files before downloading the patch. I'm gonna try and pause it at that point. Internet says it's OK to do that... I think.

Stuff's happening.
1st download is done. It's now "Applying Patch", which is about 85GB but the speed says 31MB/s which is over six times faster than my internet speed so this is some hard drive related thing that's going on rather than any downloads.
The pause button has now disappeared.
Maths says this should take about 50 minutes.
Hopefully the pause button will return then.

EDIT: And as I wait and read stuff I found  this reddit post  that seems to document the process.
Looking at this it seems that the second download will only be the 10GB voice language pack which should be about 40 minutes so maybe I might get it done tonight?

Edit 2: Woohoo! The progress bar jumped up to 50%
And now it is downloading the 10GB thing. I may now be in to the last hour of this ordeal. Hopefully.

So it was 6 and a half hours in the end and I've just spent another half hour playing with the character creation.

I started off with a dark elf woman who wants to sit down and rest after all that installation hassle.

 

And I lost Norianwe for a while there but she's caught up with me now. Perhaps I was supposed to talk with her before leading her through the door.

I'm a bit too tired to bother finishing the tutorial but so far it feels a bit like Guild Wars with better voice acting. But that may change when you get to the proper gameplay.
