Another game that I've recently had a break from is Witcher 3. Reaching Kaer Morhen felt like a bit of an interlude so it seemed a good place to rest, but now with the Steam Summer Sale approaching its end I have given in and bought the two expansion packs. It was one coin more than I would have liked but they're obviously trying to get money back from that free update that I didn't like.
And it started installing 10GB of stuff straight away! :shakefist:
I launched it when it was done just to check it was still working (thankfully it was, but you never know with these updates :paranoid:) and was informed that all the new quests are designed for when you're at least level 32.
And I'm about 24.
But that's OK. I was getting them for future play anyway. :)
So while I'm here I may as well do some Kaer Morhen stuff and let Geralt play with the glowing balls of his potatoquestioning thing. Or whatever it's called.

Meanwhile I deleted one suspected faulty mod (it was really old) and the game immediately worked, so I tried to load from the prisoner bit to see if the mods made any noticeable changes to character creation. Not sure they did. :dumb: Well, I closed it down again for the night, but I guess I'll know tomorrow, when I can see if the children still look like cloned potatoes and whether there are complete strangers milling about in the settlements.

Are you still getting the "Install Blockhead" faces?
If so, are both the Blockhead.dll and Blockhead.ini files there in the Oblivion/Data/OBSE/Plugins folder? :hmm:

Anyway, you were right the other day. I am part of the Mages Guild (even though I'm still getting recommendations) and I have found a bed I can use there in Chorrol...

Only one though. The Fighters Guild and The Blades have loads of beds to pick from that are all much easier to find. :dumb:
Now off to the book store again to see if the lady there wants to buy another twenty copies of Darkest Darkness.

No I got that blockhead issue sorted (I do have to start the game through obse, though).

And skyrim is sorted too, I think I'm not sure what effect the mods have yet - I had to get rid of the one that would make followers relax and get lost while at home, but the more up to date ones all seem to require skse, which probably won't work with GOG. Or maybe just some such mods work, or whatever it was. I try to avoid them to make it easier. Just mods with no dependencies, thank you.

So I got one that would improve the general look of NPCs (couldn't tell a difference in Helgen, though) and one for better hair (again, not sure I could see a difference. Maybe...) I also got one to make the kids look different from each other. And the unofficial patch. :aha: Oh and one that would increase the number of NPCs in towns and villages, to add a bit of life.

I would like to add more of customization for the character creation but they all seem to require skse or other mods that in turn require skse. Haven't decided on texture changing mods and the like. Some people tend to clean things up a bit too much when they alter Skyrim. It's supposed to look worn and dirty, isn't it? Lived in. Not squeaky clean.

PS: Wasn't I in Chorrol? Where was that bed? I thought I looked through the entire place, I found one guy living in the basement (the guy in charge of charging item, "get it?") , one on the ground floor (shop keeper, I guess) and two on the top floor, both spoken for...?

Uh oh...

I just went through my character saves to see what they look like now and when I got to my "current main" (highest level) she learned a new shout (though I think it was one she already knew) and became a full member of the thieves guild and a chest I didn't place there was next to her in the middle of the floor (empty, though). I think something's messed up

Edit: and after disabling/uninstalling all mods one by one, it was the unofficial patch that broke my game :stare:

Wait- we're talking about nodding Skyrim now? :dumb:
When did that happen?
*goes back through posts*

Ah, we posted at about the same time and I missed that.

One good thing about the mod managers is that you can systematically remove them to see what's going wrong. You should really add them one at a time too just to be safe, especially if you're already late into the game. Some of the big base mods only work if you're starting from the beginning.

I had a bit of trouble with the unofficial patch too cos I have the very old version of Skyrim and I started without the DLC. The patch was no longer available anywhere and I had to download it from some random person's Google drive.
Then later when I bought the DLC I tried to update to the Legendary patch and the game wouldn't load my savegame at all. So my DLC quests remain unpatched.

Well, some things don't show up in the mods list, for some reason (I think things like plain texture packs don't) which means one has to uninstall them to disable them... So now I am going to install them again. I posted on the unofficial patch page on the nexus and can only hope someone will have a reply, but for now I guess I'll play the lower level characters and leave my poor level 48 alone.
