Not to join the guild - just to attend the archmage university or whatsit. To join, you just had to tell teekeeheelioieeeeee or whatever (lots of e's) twice that you're certain you want to join. Then you can loot the place.

I assume Sean Bean is Martin? Whom I tried to rescue at level 1 and then read somewhere you shouldn't go to Kvast until level 17 or so. That's quick?

I am now level 2, btw.

I did Kvatch at level one.
Using that running-past-everyone tactic.

I am now level six, although I did mess up one level by using the showracemenu console command that apparently resets your stats.
And all because I wanted to change my hairstyle.
Thankfully I now have that Apachii Wigs mod so I can just change hair like it's a hat.

Anyway... what a lovely day for looking out over the landscape after climbing a mountain wearing your fishing waders.

 

It was a bit steep going back down though. I had to walk very slowly cos if I started running I ended up freefalling again.
One of the things I don't like about Oblivion is the absurd vertical scale of the landscape. Too many times you find yourself casually strolling along a road/footpath that has a 60 degree gradient.

EDIT: And now I have one of those decisions to make.

level 6? How long did you play Oblivion? Not for years, I hope?

No. I did start it a long while ago but then stopped playing at the Sean Bean bit and didn't touch it for ages. It's only in the last month or so that I've got back into it, partly cos it's a good game to play when it's too hot to sweat through those difficult hack and slash/dodgeroll games and when the temperature is high Oblivion doesn't cook my graphics card like Death Stranding does.

So for this particular save/character I have 33 hours of play.
I did have a couple of other characters that I experimented with at the start but this is the one I'm sticking with now.

So I just had a bit of an aha moment.

You know whenever something or someone in Skyrim says "Man and mer" - they don't mean mermaids. They mean those elf-people...
(yes, I knew they were dunmer, bosmer, altmer, even dwemer and falmer, but I never made the connection that they'd be called a collective "mer" until today... )

What!? Merpeople are usually fish-tailed! It's an easy mistake to make

So I caved and decided to try to install some mods for Skyrim as well, using Wrye Bash as that seemed easier for me to understand than Vortex. Which means that once again I am up way too late and once again I can't get things to work. This time, I can't even start Skyrim. Oops. (I've tried via both Wrye Bash and GOG and can't recall anything "OBSE" being required for any of these things - that is, SKSE is supposedly not compatible with GOG so I've only gotten mods that should not require SKSE, which I assume is the same thing as OBSE but for Skyrim...)


Should I sleep on it or sit up all night trying to make it work?
