I keep accidentally opening up No Man's Sky. Maybe it's a sign I should play it again? Or maybe I should just be more careful where I aim my mousepointer...

Maybe you need to organise your desktop icons.

It's not on my desk top, it's on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I do have some shortcuts on the desktop, but mainly because various programs put them there and I couldn't be bothered to remove them. I much prefer using the taskbar for things I want easy access to. But maybe I should look for a "lock" feature? It won't stop me from mis-clicking things but it might stop the cats from moving things to other positions along the bar...

I only have my painting stuff on the taskbar (along with the file explorer thing) but ALL my shortcuts, including games, are scattered around the desktop. I try to separate them according to which drive they're installed on; original hard disk on the left (with some games), extra gaming drive on the right.
It's all a bit cluttered and confusing but I know what it all means.

EDIT - Back on Windows XP I wouldn't even have had those icons on the taskbar as XP had a decent start menu that was organizable until they destroyed it in Windows 7
