I vaguely recall watching it when I was a kid, it was one of the first VHS tapes I ever saw, but didn't remember anything that happened.

I think Conan is the better film of the two. The narration and lack of dialogue makes it seem more serious than it actually is and Red Sonja feels more like it's jumping on the bandwagon to cash in afterwards.
But it was entertaining in a silly, nostalgic way. And it was short. :)

I'm pretty sure Red Sonja WAS jumping on the bandwagon. Wasn't there a few Conan movies made? It at least felt like more than one...

The Barbarian - good
The Destroyer - not so good
Red Sonja - rubbish

Arnolds character in Red Sonja was originally meant to be Conan but I think there was some rights issue so he became not Conan (he's basically the same character but with clothes on).

Continuing my October theme with Salem's Lot. It's a bit contradictory... Some scenes are graphically beatiful and then some scenes are like an amateur theatre doing Bram Stoker's Dracula. "It is I, Master. I bring a sacrifice master." (not to mention the initial "There will be a large heavy crate brought into the country tonight at 6 pm and you will go get it and carry it into my basement with great care..." (which is paraphrased, the film was a lot more theatrical about it... Or should I say, Mr Straker was. I think he's supposed to come off as old fashioned but he also comes off as a copycat...)

...they're all woefully ill equipped to deal with vampires considering they also seem very quick to accept that's what's going on. I mean a couple have seen them, so I get why they'd believe in vamps but others have been told and only one person seem to remain sceptical. And then they go after them without anything - except for a kid who brings one wooden stake. :eyeroll:

I presume this is the new adaptation of Salem's Lot and not the 1979 version (or the other one). I haven't seen it, but I can say with certainty that, unlike the 70s version, it lacks Soul

...and why do vampire hunters always find their destination at sundown?

Edit: Yep it's 2024 though clothes suggests they still pretend it's older... not sure when it takes place, exactly but I haven't seen any cell phones.

It takes a while to find them. If they were easy to track down, there wouldn't be any

Well, if vampire hunters had any brains they'd go back home in the evening and then continue their search the next day. But maybe the zombies ate their brains.

Also looked up Soul. Glad his hair wasn't in this version, though the current Ben Mears doesn't have the best hairdo either. :dumb:
