I reworked my plate and started playing with gingerbread but I still can't really get the effect I want so both colour and bump needs some more work.

Well I had a go at the gingerbread and got this...

Not quite what I had in mind. :S
Part of me thinks that there should be some subsurface effect in there but when I tried that it looked stoopid. Maybe it just needs better lighting with an HDR.
Also I tried to cut some windows into the walls but the solidify/bevel/subdivision modifiers really didn't like that idea.

May have to go to Youtube for a bit to see how they do the textures

:hmm: Herbert?

And Val, your gingerbread texture looks better than mine. If you change it can I have your current one? :dumb:

One of the suspects in today's dose of Death in Paradise bears the surname Herbert. :O

I'm not sure I'm changing it just yet but yes. Yes you can.
Here's the node setup...

It's just two noise textures with different scales combined through a Colour Mix node set to multiply and then goes to a bump node and a colour ramp.
I'm not sure the two colours in the gradient are quite right and I may also send the texture to a displacement node too but that would need more subdivisions and I'm not ready for that kind of sloooowness yet.
But I was right, it does look a little better with proper lighting.

That's almost twice as many nodes as I have

Edit: And my Principled BDSM ( :dumb: ) node doesn't look like yours. And when I tried to experiment with a value in it, Blender stopped responding. :shakefist: (And no I hadn't saved my changes. Not that I can't do them again. And my gingerbread looked more like lava than like Val's gingerbread anyway)

Oh it's responsive again. *saves*

Meh. If I put the noise textures parallel I get the bump I want but not the texture and if I put them "serial" I get the texture I want (more or less) but no discernible bump.

I'm too tired today (had to leave home at 7.20 and the cat decided we shouldn't sleep, around 4.30 to 5). I think it's a bit more TV and then night night. :sleepy:
