Well the Modelling window isn't that much different from the Layout one. Maybe the data for that workspace has become corrupted.
Does it happen with different saved files?
You could right-click and delete that Layout and then click the + to add another one.

Or more importantly ... does it happen if you start a new project with the cube? Do new objects appear when you add them?

Or if you've gone to bed I suggest some extra snoring.

But if the issue is just with this file and definitely not there with the default cube thing then when you launch Blender, go into the preferences and uncheck this box...

...then load in the file.
If everything works then go back into preferences, recheck the box and then save the file.

So I thought I'd try that vertex to squiggly line to icing thing (but for something other than icing...) but I'm already stumped. How do you get 1 measly starting vertex? :dumb:

Do you add a shape and remove everything but one vertex?

I did try the L and then Alt+S on my tree icing and that worked wonderfully. Except I couldn't quite tell if I made the icing thinner, thicker or ended up not actually changing it at all... but the point is, it worked! :woohoo:

There is an Add Single Vert option in the menu. Or just add a plane and select all vertices, press M and merge at centre.

Oh, wait a minute. That Add Single Vert may be part of an addon that you have to activate in Preferences.

But the merge vertices thing should suffice and is pretty quick to do.

Yeah I started of with a plane. And got the shape I wanted, with some work. But then I added the wrong surface and now I have to decide if I should be lazy and keep it or try my original idea... :hmm:

I've felt like building some spacecrafty stuff since I started re-watching Star Gate, even though I still haven't seen the whole first episode. And being the logical creature that I am, this meant I went back to an old file which has nothing at all to do with space. :dumb: So, now that I know how to use those texture node thingies... more or less anyway... I decided to revisit my unfinished industrial loft home and see what I could do. It's still unfinished, mind you and it seems sometimes the mortar in the brick texture is "indented" and sometimes the opposite... Not sure if I have to reverse the faces in the UV mapping or if it's a light thing or what. Not that I have added any lights yet. :dunno:

and I was going to insert a couple of previews but they won't show so I am assuming they're brokedybroken. I tried converting from huge pngs to smaller jpgs but it doesn't seem to help.

Guess I'll try again tomorrow. :pout:
