:P

To be honest I'm reluctant to recommend Bly Manor. It felt very unnecessarily long and that review I mentioned were right about how they quickly lost the creep factor. Apparently in the original book, you keep wondering if the nanny is going insane or if the ghosts are really there. There's no such question here, really. And while the kids are fairly creepy that doesn't quite make up for the not so good stuff... The guy playing Luke Crain in Hill House, seems like a creepy guy at first but end up being mostly pathetic...

I haven't seen the Haunting of Hill House, though, so I can't say whether Bly Manor is better or worse...

This is somewhat similar to the original Hill House story in which (in both book and original adaptation) it is open to interpretation whether there really are ghosts or whether the protagonist is experiencing these things due to her mental state. The 90s remake and this TV version throw that out the window and just go BOO GHOSTS 'n' SUPERNATURAL SHIZ!!!!

I wonder why they bother basing it on books at all?

So people only watch movies based on books they've heard of before...? :hmm:

No, but well known book already has publicity surrounding it, or has a fan following, or is firmly embedded in pop culture. We wouldn't have 25,003 adaptations of A Christmas Carol otherwise.
