Well, the right side looks better. The knee on the ground is angled in the opposite direction of what I meant... It seems it'd be hard for it to attach to her hip, there, somewhere behind her head... Basically, with the angle of the butt/hips, I think her knee ought to point left. :)

I finished up the painting process.  At the last stage I decided to make the eyes more symmetrical as it felt too stylized against a realistic look I was going for.  Hopefully that was the correct choice.  Any final input on the image would be appreciated before I add it to my portfolio, so if something looks off kindly let me know!  Below is the current progress followed by the steps for those interested:

I like the cobwebs but I do think the highlights in her hair looks a bit unnatural. I think they're rarely that straight or that white, and seeing as there's a few small fires around it seems they should at least partially be warmer... Maybe? :hmm:

Charlotte:  Great input!  I toned down the highlights, hopefully it looks more natural now!

Took a long break from anything art related to avoid burnout, and I also wanted to give this image a fresh eye and see what could be improved.  Ended up re working it significantly and I'm quite happy with it now.  Below is the update!

Charlotte:  Thanks, glad you dig the new hairstyle! :)

Had a bit of an art block but I decided to start on a new illustration for Mermay as I made it a yearly habit to paint a Mermaid every May  I finished up a sketch based on one of Grafit Studio's reference packs (you can view the pack  here ), taking some artistic liberties to make the gesture more dynamic as well as giving her a more interesting character design.  Overall I'm quite pleased with the sketch but I wanted to hear any input before I begin doing some color tests for this one, so please let me know!  Below is the sketch:

Her ears look a bit like we're seeing them head-on while the rest of the head is seen from below - I think we should se a bit less of them and mostly just the lower lobes, maybe? I didn't compare with any reference, though.

Other than that I guess it's just a matter of taste but I'm not sure tribal style tattoos feel very mermaidy. Maybe think about what someone living under the sea might want to mark their bodies with? Personally, I think bioluminescent markings come to mind... (Tribal tattoos can be that, too, I guess, but... I think they'd go for patterns from say fish or corals...)

Charlotte:  Great feedback!  Went ahead and tweaked the sketch so hopefully it's an improvement!

I updated the sketch and did a series of color tests.   My personal favorite is 'B' but I'm open to hearing suggestions on what you feel works best, so please let me know which one you prefer!  Below are the color tests:
