Yes, she does have a tendency to get in the way...

Though she also has a tendency to be quite useful. Today I rode straight into a sabertooth, and while I turned my horse around and tried to get some distance away so I could dismount without the cat attacking me at the same time, she killed them both.

No, I didn't even see the other one before it was dead.

You should try Mjoll from Riften. I think she's unkillable.

She can be a follower?

Yes, I was gonna use her for the current quest I'm on until some Thieves' Guild stuff intervened (she really doesn't like them.)
You have to get her to like you first and then retrieve her sword from some dwemer place but after that she'll happily ditch that poor sap that follows her around and run around with you instead.
