Very Halloweeny!
But don't forget that the monthly challenge is halloweeny too ;) So you can make TWO halloweeny images this month!

I really like this one. The light on the face is very well done and makes everything pop out in a convincingly three dimensional way. Great expression too. :aha:

Charlotte:  Indeed! :D  Two Halloween images might be overkill for me, haha.  Recently suffered a severe art block recently so I'm trying to focus on studies for now, but we'll see!  Loving your entry btw, hope to see it progress further!

Valence:  Glad to hear it, thank you kindly! :) ................  Some studies, first one is a movie still study from "Star Wars: Force Awakens" and the other two are photo studies of primitive shapes.  Goal with these is to study lighting further:

Next up I did some minor tweaking on the witch illustration.  I think I'll call it done now and focus on my studies!

Went ahead and did a bunch of photo studies of primitive shapes to help study lighting.  Learned a lot from these.  Also did a study of the recent 'Blade Runner' film as well:

............ Next up I started on a new illustration.  I began the sketch quite a while ago (I believe at least a year ago) but followed up on it recently.  For the figure I had two references to help me come up with the pose which you can view here  , and I looked a at a bunch of different ones to help me draw out the wolves.  Hopefully things look fairly natural, but I would love to hear any feedback on the sketch before I begin some color tests, so please let me know if something feels off or could be improved!  Below is the current sketch:

I do think her legs and feet look a bit strange.
For one thing I can't tell if her legs are crossed or not but her pose would be extremely awkward if they aren't. So maybe make that clearer. And also the soles of her shoes - they wouldn't really shape themselves after her feet like that. Rather the other way around - if she wants to "point her toes", the boots would bend more at the ankle while the foot shape remained more or less "static". As it is, those shoes would require the addition of heels.

You have several bad tangents, more specifically lines flowing into one another.

Charlotte:  Yep, I wasn't entirely sure about the legs so I'm grateful for your feedback.  I just reworked them significantly, please let me know if they look more natural now!

Banj:  Damn tangents! Very good eye!  I went ahead and fixed many of them, hopefully it works better now!

............

Here's an update based on the input I received, hopefully things look more natural now, please feel free to let me know!

I think maybe she wouldn't point her toes so much to the right, but rather in a similar direction to her raised foot. (Usually we think insecure - toes point inwards, confident, toes point outwards. And she doesn't look very insecure to me ;) )

Most of those tangents are better, the wolf at the back left is still casing some issues. Also her legs don't look right to me. Her hip is over where her hand is yet the line of the top of the thigh is pointing down toward the back of the wolf instead of toward where the hand is (in order to connect to her pelvis).

Charlotte:  That's a good point!  Went ahead and updated the legs once again, hopefully it works better now!

Banj:  Glad to hear those tangents are better.  Went ahead and updated the wolf in the back so hopefully it works better.  I'll fine tune any other tangents I have naturally during the painting process as well.  Good point about the legs, definitely see the error now that I took a fresh look at it.  I went ahead and updated it, hopefully it's better now!

Here's an update based on the recent feedback I received, hopefully things look more natural now!
