Ooof.
I think you can do it in Gimp. :pout:

You have to Decompose the Components into normal layers. Then you can paste a greyscale image onto the Alpha layer and Recompose the image.
I didn't enjoy working that out but I think it's possible. But I still haven't worked out how to paint directly into the alpha layer while viewing it as a greyscale image. :hmm:

EDIT: Yes, you CAN paint directly into the alpha layer. Gimp just doesn't like my old tablet very much.
It does work though. And you can decompose the channels into separate files to work on too.

EDIT2: And the decompose component functions in Gimp seem to be part of the G'Mic filters which are available as a Paint.net plugin too if you can't tolerate Gimp's terrible interface. Not sure how well it works in Paint.net cos I don't have the latest version installed and it's too late for me to start messing around with that kind of thing. *yawn*

Decompose? Like compost? :dumb:

I don't have GIMP, never got the hang of it. Guess I'll have to download it, install it, try it, hate it and get rid of it again. Tomorrow, or maybe during the weekend. :aha:

I've no idea what G'mic is/does either... Guess I will have something to do tomorrow... :confident:

Here's the link to it  on the Paint.Net forum. And I noticed  a different forum post  mentioned it had the channel decompose thing. (EDIT: And  this one  seems to have specific Alpha/Greyscale filters.)

Part of me wonders if you could also install it into ArtRage as older versions used to have the option to use Photoshop plugins. Not sure if it still does and I'm even less sure that I'd want to start doing things that might break ArtRage. :argh:

As I can't sleep (though my eyes feel like they can't focus from being tired) I have downloaded the paint.net plugins. Thanks. :)

I haven't gotten further than that, yet, though. Figured I'd fiddle a bit with my breezehome furnishings and then most likely return to bed. (I've had less than 4 hours of sleep, so far, after all...)

Despite my fears I did indeed try to install it into ArtRage, :argh:

And... some of the things work and some of them don't and it's very slow and...

I could separate channels into separate images (rather than layers) but couldn't recompose them again.

Maybe it'll all work better in Paint.Net. :aha:

I still haven't tried. But I DID just get around to trying to visit my modded Breezehome cell. And I think one of the original textures (one of the normalmaps I shouldn't have changed) has been altered  At least I don't remember Breezehome having weird round dark spots on the walls.

Also, and as I suspected (and feared), the mod crashed my game immediately. And of course I have no idea which part of all the gazillion parts, that causes this. I did read somewhere that one shouldn't copy a cell but start from scratch but of course that was AFTER I had already copied Breezehome.... So... ho hum. Lots of work ahead. Besides all the stuff that wasn't even done yet.

Did a few cleanups in SSEEdit, and tried again. Also visited the planter NPCs. That was creepy. Four undressed guys just hanging around in nothingness saying things like "yes?" "mhm?" and "need something?". Why are they even alive? :paranoid:

Anyway, I managed to load into my house and have a quick look around before it crashed again... So... I wonder if that means that whatever causes the crash is already in the cell (loading when I do) or if it might be connected to one of the "initially disabled X-markers"? :hmm: I did delete some references and stuff and haven't looked at the scripting yet, not sure if that causes issues or if it's one of my own models...

I'm reluctant to actually do anything now that I've had to make new backup copies of everything. Again.

But I did load up Skyrim and use the player.placeatme console command to check out the four building parts I have made for my version of Breezehome. Unfortunately none of them crashed the game so I still don't know what causes that.

Also unfortunately, only one of the four has functioning collisions, so I guess I need to rework them anyway. :eyeroll:

After I get my computer back from a new round of service, I guess. :pout: (I haven't heard back yet, so I dunno what will happen)

Edit:
I checked the files in Nifskope and the collisions of the walls are placed way too high so that explains that. The bathtub however, should have collision right where it should be :dunno:
