Well would you say the lid has to be moved to the floor (000 position) in Blender before applying transforms? so basically overlap the rest of the chest rather than be on top of it like it is in the final version?

(I suspect the "apply transforms" and "resetting" them is the same thing)

Well, I tried this (doesn't hurt, after all) but it seems to make no difference.

Edit: I also checked the original common chest and I suspect my back hinges might just have been in the exact right spot to work even though any adjustments I make in nifskope to the hinge position doesn't actually show through? Not sure

No, you want it zeroed at the position it is supposed to be (i.e. it's initial starting position).

That's where it was... :dumb:

anyway I tried moving the ninode/hinge at the back and THAT worked, so I don't know why the hell nothing I do to the other one shows through. :dumb:

I know absolutely nothing about the format/exporting of nif things but while trying to quickly learn I found some reference to problems with translations/rotations on the  Arcane University  but as my knowledge is almost zero I don't really understand what it says. :dumb:

Thanks Val, though as far as I can tell that info isn't relevant (I'm not exporting the animation, I'm just putting the objects into a file that already contains the animation)

Selecting the object when in object mode and hitting ALT G is what I was talking about apparently

That seems to move items back to 0,0,0 if I first move them away. Or rather back to where I have set their applied transforms :dumb:

Anyway...
If I move the back hinge node up by 10, the whole lid moves up, in Nifskope and CK.
If I move the latch hinge forward/up/down the latch moves in Nifskope but not in the CK.

Does the Origin of each object (ie the chest, the lid and the latch) have to coincide with where you need the rotation point to be?
