Hey guys,

I was just about to post my latest painting on the ImagineFX forum when I found out it's gone (and this one is the new one?)

Sooo.. Just a quick something about me before I actually show you the image.

I've been painting since 2011 mainly when I've had the time (meaning: almost no painting). I'm all self taught and proud of it. Of course I'll be learning my whole life!

So here's some info about the painting:

Captain Blindeye
Captain Blindeye is one of the inhabitants of a fantasy world I’m currently developing, and he’s the leader of a group of people that live by the sea. These people have mastered the art of creating machines for whatever purpose you can think of, even flying. The ships they build ply both the air and water around on a daily basis, and this is a huge part of what defines these people in the first place. They’ve even been able to create lifelike robots such as the mechanical bird on Captain Blindeye’s shoulder. These people are not particularly aggressive, but you definitely don’t want to stand in their way when they wander around searching for treasure.

You can see some closeups on my website: artofroz.com/portfolio/captain-blindeye/

Thank you for your time :)

Welcome Roz, glad you found us :)

a tip - you can make the image show up "full size" (larger than a thumbnail that is) by clicking the insert button next to the name once you've added the file :)

Hiya Roz! Welcome to the new world!

Is this a digital piece? I think the texture is lovely and the character is really interesting too!

Keep posting up!

Hi Dave, Haywire and Domtopia :)

Thanks for the kind words and yes, it is a digital piece. Just curious though - does it look otherwise and how exactly? I ask because that's not the first time I get this kind of question and I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Have a nice and inspired day! :)

I think it's the texture and colour variation you have in your images. A lot of digital art tends to become overly smooth both in texture (or rather a total lack of it) and color gradations. So I'd say it's a compliment whenever someone isn't certain that it's digital :)

Funny you say that because there was a time (up until very recently if I have to be honest) when I actually strived for that smoothness. I used to admire, and still do to some degree, artists who are able to blend their colors so well, that one can't tell where the transition between two colors actually occurs. Lately I'm much more into textures, for I find they bring the painting to life and make it much more believable. Painting different materials is really fun to me and pushes me to my limits and beyond.

So thanks for the compliment then!

Are you using textured brushes then, Roz? Or texture overlays after applying the color? Just wondering. :)
