I was going to ask if they were hamsters but then I saw a long tail, so I guess not. I do like the idea, though. :)

(But it's missing the hamster wheel and the exhausted hamster...)

There were going to be different animals all over it, they ended up just being mice for some reason. Mice obviously make more sense being as they operate the real ones.
