So I thought I'd share a bit more on my process when I'm illustrating a comic book. I took some photos of the stage process with my phone well I was illustrating page 15. If you go back to page 6 in the thread you'll see my rough for page 15. You'll notice the work stays fairly close to the original rough. Of some changes are made at this stage thou. More details etc.... Since it is being illustrated at 11 by 17 inches. I use a 2H step 1&2 and H grade pencil for step 3.

Panels 2&3
Step1: First I rough in loosely the layout from my original rough.

Step2: I then start to refine the forms and the shapes.

Step3:
The final step is cleaning it up for inkling. When you all see the page inked you'll notice the inkling stays fairly true to the original pencil line work.

Panel 1
Since panel 1 involves perspective I separated it from the other 2. the process is the same for the most part.

Step1: When perspective comes in with a room element I tend to work the basic shapes up from the ground up. So first I layout the size of the shape on the floor then work it up. This helps fore keeping a realistic sense of spatial relationships with the furniture.

Sep2: Then I start to work in the other elements.

Step3: The same as before. Clean up.

And the final result a page is ready for inking. Yaaa! ;)

I decided to revise pg4. I wasn't happy with the viaduct hallucination. I felt it didn't take our secondary character into WW2 well enough. So here will be the new Pg4. I much happier with the end result here.

This sort of stuff is awesome. I love seeing progressive work like this. It's so much more informative than the finished article.

Thanks for being so open with all the sketchbook stuff Bergy. I looks fantastic!

Everything's on the right!!!

It's like driving abroad!

Thanks Dave.

Thanks Domtopia. If someone can learn something from what I do I'm honored. I enjoy sharing this sort of stuff. Maybe it comes from being self taught.
