You unlock this research by releasing two dinosaurs with the defensive trait... the defensive trait is locked. To unlock the defensive trait you need to release dinosaurs with the vulnerable trait... which is locked because it's part of the same gene modification as the defensive trait. 

I guess you need to first release a couple with the stoopid trait, and then you can go from there...

In Planet Crafter I have now been through the same wreck (the one closest to where you are when the game starts) three times. Not sure if it's annoying or genius. (You go through it initially to find resources you need for survival, then once you have a stronger deconstruction tools you go through again and deconstruct a bunch of things for circuit boards and then, once you can make fusion cells, some doors open and you can find more loot. Including now useless microchips because I've already unlocked them all. Except the ones you can only get through trading.)

Some pesky noob unlocked a treasure chest and didn't fully loot it!
Thought I was gonna complete an endeavour only to find the thing was already open and all that was inside was a pair of level 6 boots.
