I think the one I had was a collection of short stories but I can't recall the name of the book. It was gifted to me by my dad and his ex - or more likely by his ex as she did most of the shopping while alive... When I was young I made these looooong lists of books and comics I wanted, every christmas. And I always got something else. Nobel prize winners a few times. Asimov (she liked sci-fi too and had a shelf full of old pulp, which is where I found Doc Savage - can't recall the rest of the books I read from that shelf...) and Catch 22. Maybe a Bradbury as well. I just never got into the Asimov one. Hated the Catch 22 one - after reading the 1st page.

Now I'm an adult I can buy all the books I want, myself, but I never take the time to read. :dumb:

Decided to watch another movie today and went for The Suspicions of Mr Whicher from 2011. I figured I hadn't seen it but I now suspect I have... It is based on a true story, apparently, so I guess it's possible I've seen another adaptation, but it was probably this one.

Oh well, I still don't remember very much of it, so I guess I can watch it again. :dumb:

Edit - apparently it's a series of 4 films, and the one I'm watching is the first,  The Murder at Road Hill House.

I think I remember liking that one. I vaguely recall reading the non-fiction book too but I can't remember if I liked that as well, nor if I read it before or after watching the movie/show. :dumb:

Banj's supervillain strikes again. :)

He's a real nuisance that one. I hope someone remembers to apprehend him, soon.

I am now watching A Haunting In Venice with Kenneth Branagh and that silly moustache that makes him talk in a silly accent. :stare:

It must be very difficult to speak normally with facial hair. :aha:

I watched the first episode of the second season of Chelsea Detective yesterday. It was about theft and murder in an art gallery. In Skyrim I did the talking to Helgi's ghost thing where she described how she died in the fire... And then I had this dream where people were trapped in a house on fire and I went there but didn't see much sign of fire - a bit of smoke but nothing more. I went in through the front door and found 7 people hiding behind a bunch of pillows under a sofa about 2 meters from the door... Not sure how they all fit under there or why they didn't just leave. I did try to ask them why they didn't leave instead of hiding when the fire wasn't all that bad but I couldn't get anything sensible out of them. One of them mentioned an 8th person who was elsewhere in the building and in a wheelchair so I figured I should try to find her but the other 6 had no idea who she was and when I told them she had a room near another person's room they just started making jokes about the other person who was apparently a bit odd. I had to explicitly explain to them that I wanted to make sure she was alive, to make them be at least a bit serious. One of them started building a memorial to the fire and later I noticed a tree on fire - apparently they celebrated not dying in the fire by setting a new fire. I never did find the girl in the wheelchair (nor did the fire brigade show up though we were all waiting for it). But I did find an art exhibit, full of wooden sculptures. And somehow, walking around among the sculptures I felt so happy I started dancing and then flying... And then I bumped into a wall and hurt my side and even though I tried to get past the wall my side kept hurting. I woke up to found Merlin trampling all over me.

Sounds like an eventful dream. :)

And is Chelsea Detective another British cop shop that I've never heard of? There seem to be so many.

The Poirot film was surprisingly entertaining in the end. It was filmed more like a horror movie than an Agatha Christie thing and all the creepy camera angles created a sinister mood that was quite enjoyable. Stayed awake through most of it.

The Chelsea Detective show is the one I mentioned previously and you said I watch all these British shows you never heard of... :D

And... that comment about the Poirot film sounds familiar. You sure you didn't watch it before? :dumb: Maybe Banj did?

Well I've still never heard of it.

I think there are three of Kenneth Branagh's moustache movies and I've "watched" them all but I did sleep through almost all of Death On The Nile.
This new one seemed the best of them. Or maybe that's cos I wasn't familiar with this story.
