Hmm nope, I don't think I have ever been in that one. I do recognise the author though, even if I can't remember which books I've read....

I have many of them, such as all four books in The Rats trilogy 

Googling him I see he wrote the Secret of Crickley Hall, which I remember Atto recommending, so maybe that's where I recognise the name from. Though I feel like I have a book or two with that name on the cover, as well...

I guess that's better than three books in a fourology?

EDIT: Reading a list of his works none of them ring a bell as something I have read. I'm pretty sure I've read a Stephen King short-story called the Fog and I do have a graphic novel with horror rats in it but I'm 100% certain that was a Dean R Koontz story... So... probably just recognise the name 'cause Atto mentioned him before

The last one was a graphic novel, so it's kind of separate from the others (not the novel Others which he also wrote ).

The Mist? Adapted into a pretty good film, and a terrible TV series. James Herbert wrote The Fog, not to be confused with John Carpenter's The Fog, or the crappy remake of the same name 

Oh yeah it might have been the Mist. I might even have read it in Swedish.... Can't really recall. I do recall not liking it.
