Gnomes

Brief: Gnomes, doing Gnome things. Whether they are Garden Gnomes or something more mysterious and sinister is up to you.

Deadline: Midnight on Monday 31st of March. There will now be no voting and no eventual winner, this is just a creative exercise with a time limit.

Rules in brief:
- All challenge entries must be your own work.
- You should post at least two WIP images that are clearly different from your final entry and each other.
- Your final entry should contain your image (inserted so it shows up full size) and at least two links to your WIP posts on the forum.
- No chatter in the finals thread – if you have questions, post them in the WIP thread or PM an admin.
- Feedback is allowed & encouraged together with the voting and in the WIP thread.
- Deadline is given in UK time (midnight UTC) with a grace period of 5 minutes for getting the post sorted.
- Each member may cast one vote.
- No cheating! Admins may decide to disqualify an entry that does not adhere to the above rules.

 

Instead of looking for my missing cable, I decided to do a traditional study/sketch. It did not become as gnomish (or proportional) as I had hoped. Maybe I'll try something else. When I find that cable...
 

Found the cable. It's attached to a bunch of other things (or rather, to a USB hub which is connected to a bunch of other things) and I don't want to put all those things together until I've finished assembling my "new" desk/shelves and the parts I need for that will arrive Monday. So maybe I can try another gnome, after that...

I've tried to start something for this four times now and everything keeps going very rubbish very quickly.

Multiple different methods all failed but last night I tried blocking things out with separate squished spheres and that seemed to work out the proportions a bit better...

 

and now I've joined them all and sculpted it into this...

 

I recently watched that short Blender Secrets video on the Quad remesher and used those tricks to try and reduce the number of polygons and improve the topology.

Of course the method didn't work for me.

Unpainted gnome on some mossy ground...

 

This is going much, much slower than I hoped due to my inability to understand basic things.

And yet you seem to have made more progress than anyone else...

And I think your "lumpy style" as you call it, of modelling, works very well on this little fella.

Just noticed that his eyes have gone missing in that WIP.
