I'm not Banj but kerning is a typography term that refers to the spacing between letters.
I never notice stuff like that but now that he mentioned it the space between the V and A does appear to be greater than the other letters in the NOVA logo.

As Valence says it's the spacing between two letter forms. Upper case A and V together are one of the biggest offenders. You usually want letters to be visually spaced so they looked balanced, meaning the foot of the A can be moved under the overhang of the V. kind of like this...

The extra level of rendering with the lighting and the glass really pushes them out of the picture.
