Opening Idea
Made wider and added waving man
Gave front character a face
Colour sky/ice, reposition waving man
And finally some texture on the front man etc
With a sky like this it could be Mordor

Whew! Nearly missed it - damn you February for being so short!

WIP 1 cgartnexus.com/index.php/forums/challeng...e-wips?start=0#23656

Wip 2 cgartnexus.com/index.php/forums/challeng...-wips?start=10#23796

And the final (which really doesn't seem very different to me now)

No smudge tool was harmed in the making of this image.

I think we all suffered from the Short Month Syndrome in this challenge. Just what is the point of Februrary? We should get rid of it and make the other months a bit longer. :P (And I'm sure I say this every year!)

Oaktree: I thought your pic was incredibly ambitious. (I'd never try to do so much work in 28 days!) Love the burning moody sky and the light catching the distant ship. It makes it look kind of ghostly and adds a symbolism to the story you're telling. The subtle texture you added at the end works a treat and was well worth the effort. The only extra thing I'd have worked on there is maybe a bit more shading on the blue areas of the fabric to pull them away from the equally blue background. But the month just doesn't have the extra days for that work!

Atto:
Great faces and figure! I like the complementary colours of the cold bluey/greeny and the warm flame and the way you have that light hitting and reflecting off the transparent ice is very effective. I think you've been very clever with the cracks too in the way you've given them a bit of dimension so that they cut deeper than the surface of the ice. It's very tough to paint transparent things, it all relies on subtle implication and there are several great examples of it here.

So I'm gonna vote Atto. I loved the faces from the start and as the picture developed I remained "locked" into that choice just as much as your character. :)

EDIT: Bluey? Greeny? Yes, it's called Cyan. I do know that, I just had a brainfade and couldn't remember the name of the colour. It's all February's fault somehow.

Voting should have ended for this, but as we have another one of those tied votes I guess we can leave it open a few more days and hope there's a deciding vote, or an Admin will probably have to pick a winner.
