I have a similar thing going. Started with a quick scribble (ignore the Sun in the wrong place).

Which lead to some 3D shenanigans in ZBrush and Modo.

I was originally just going to do a quick 3D base and paint over that, but then I spent a ridiculous amount of time Sculpting craters, so I'm now deciding whether to go full 3D or not

:paranoid:
Have you been playing No Man's Sky?

(Not terribly similar, but it still reminded me of that ruin. Which looks the same on every planet and moon in the entire universe(s) )

Nope, it's just an obvious thing to do. I'm sure I've seen the same thing done in films and TV shows too. And the Astronaut walking up to the edge is definitely something I've seen before several times, but I'm possibly going to replace him anyway

That's pretty much how I feel about my pic. I feel like I've already seen it many times before and I may even have seen it the other day on the news when they launched that Jupiter mission.
And I was gonna have a foreground astronaut too on the right side.

Your pic has a much better sense of scale and perspective to it, and the lighting in the sketch does capture the harsh extremes of space wherever the sun happens to be.

I don't know, I quite like the sense of scale in yours with the big eye overlooking the base.

To me that little base looks like something from an isometric mobile phone game.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to do some kind of milky way, starfield background to rescue the whole thing.

And autocorrect keeps changing "starfield" to "Sheffield". :shakefist:
I don't think that would rescue anything at all.

A moon base with Sheffield in the background should be quite original, though. :confident:

I think. Unless they have built moon bases 'round there just to try them out.
