Love the face and beard. The hair isn't working quite as well.... guess it has to do with the long hairs vs short strokes... but the face - and the eyes in particular - is excellent!

Yeah, I wasn't sure about it either but all the little strokes took far too long and I wasted a lot of time getting the nose and beard wrong.
I initially wanted to keep the background plain but that wasn't working either so I had to fill that with fiddly strokes too and then I just got fed up and stopped.

Hindsight says that I should probably have used one of those impressionist custom brushes to save time instead of using the oil brush for every tiny stroke! Seemed like such a good idea at the time.

...or you should have used up your last drop of patience on the hair and not bothered with fiddly strokes in the background The nose looks great, though

The feather in the hat looks a bit ghostly, otherwise it looks finished enough to me
