Well, now that you mention Pterodactyl...
During the subsequent cut scene the book stayed stuck to her hand for a few moments, then she finally let go of it and it did indeed start flying around between the two talking heads.

Replayed a bit more of Hellblade (Hmm, didn't remember that face in the waterfall. Maybe I missed it before or maybe I've just forgotten) but I'm still dying just as much as I did the first time, so I doubt I'll be any quicker.
