I take it he is talking about Merlin and the movie has something to do with that story line? Unfortunately I haven't watched anything about King Arthur and the round table that dates past the 90s.

The makers of the film originally intended to make an adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, but couldn't obtain or lost the screen rights. So he is kind of Gandalf.
