If it makes you feel any better, I had almost the same idea in mind when I thought about this challenge.

Meanwhile I've done a bit of the rocky mountain and some more detail for the tentacle thing.
I ended up scribbling over the foreground pillars, it was hard trying to do the rocks around them when I hadn't defined the edges so they've gone for now.
They may return later on another layer. May do the same with the figures as I move down.

 

Still not happy with the depth. Gonna have to balance those distant values later on.

Some figures have been sketched and the pillars are back. Well- one pillar that's been copied and pasted and mirrored.

 

Now I need to do some glowy magic stuff on top of them, detail the foreground, shadows for the figures to ground them and balance those values to push everything back.

I will scribble over them again just to try and make them look different.

You should really start these earlier.

But that hand is still better than the four little ones I've been trying to do today.

He's apparently a Great Old One according to the Malleus Monstorum vol. 2 for the Call of Cthulhu RPG
