CGAN May-23 Challenge: Star Wars WIPs

Well, the day wasn't a complete waste of time, as I've done something, but...

 

Dagobah needs more work.

It's looking very moody and atmospheric. 

It's so moody that now I'm looking at it in daylight I can't see a thing in all that gloom.
And I'm gonna have to restart it cos I botched up the textures on the distant trees. I duplicated them before converting them from curves to meshes so the mapping coordinates are a little funky.
But it shouldn't take too long now that I've re-learned the things I'd forgotten.

I need to rework some of my textures, but it is slowly coming together. I'm glad I started earlier on this challenge than I usually do.

You wont get to see much of it in the final image, so I might as well post it here. 

Looking nice. If I had a garden, I wouldn't mind having it in that garden

And some walls you wont see much. Not sure if these would work in the garden too

Back to the X-Wing now.
And Blender's texture painting function is truly awful.

And what's that line appearing over there while I'm painting over here?
The UVs are overlapping?
Why? WHY???
I used the Smart UV Project. I thought that was supposed to do it right.

Remember how, ages ago in a different challenge, I complained about Blender not automatically saving painted texture images with the file?
Then in a later challenge I made the same mistake again and complained a second time?
And then in another challenge lost work for a third time and complained?

Well...



Not that it was going well anyway. I guess this is another wasted day.
UVs and texture painting are evil. Along with hard surface modelling.
Bring back the lumpy, terrible topology vertex-painting stuff.

I actually quite enjoy UV mapping
