Familiar

Brief:
Yes, it is November and we are doing another Halloweeny related one. This month the theme is Familiar in the Witches companion sense of the word. Depict said familiar using you amazing powers of artistry.

Deadline: Midnight on Saturday the 30th of November. There will now be no voting and no eventual winner, this is just a creative exercise with a time limit.

This thread is where you post your final entries, WIPs (work in progress) should be posted over here:  cgartnexus.com/index.php/forums/challeng...-nov24-familiar-wips

Challenge rules and guidelines:

- Deadline is given in UK time (midnight UTC) with a grace period of 5 minutes for getting the post sorted.

As far as I am getting this month, and presumably before I have a functioning computer again, as well... (so still a wip)

and wip 1-2 are here:  cgartnexus.com/index.php/forum/challenge...-wips?start=10#52741

I like them both. Hopefully Charlotte's will get finished at some point. Valence's is really nice with the perspective and depth of field. If I was really picky I would say the cat's head (it's left, our right) is slightly wonky, it's muzzle and ear projects forward strangely out of perspective with the rest of it's head, but it looks great regardless. So my lack of vote goes to Valence.

I really like that cat too (and the roof of that cottage and the leaves on the ground - the kinds of things I can never manage) and as for the cat's face I don't really think it looks "wrong" in any way; the slight asymmetry just adds character. :)

To be honest I think ALL of the cat is wonky.
It bothered me all the way through.
I was trying to get an asymmetric snarl in the face but the eyes and nose ended up being a bit skewed and I did then try to "de-wonk" the eyes by nudging one up a bit at the end but...
However that back leg on the left bugs me the most. That style and type of rear leg (on all animals that have it) never stops being a problem for me. Maybe one day I'll understand how to do it but it won't be a day that arrives soon.
Also I'm becoming a bit too reliant on that blurry depth of field gimmick. I did have a completely unblurred version that I was trying to force myself to post but I gave in to the blur again.

And I too like Charlotte's picture and hope it may get finished when replacements/refunds allow. I was particularly impressed with how much expression you got in the woman's face. Achieving that from the angle of a side profile requires skill and subtlety. Well done. :aha:

skill and subtlety.... or a good reference... :dumb:

Anyway, I gave her a "few" tattoos.... and flat colours although I can't really work properly with them when I don't know exactly what they actually look like. The gradient of the artrage colour picker is no longer a proper gradient. Parts are graded and others just seem to shift rather abruptly. Plus, everything looks much too saturated. Still, or again, or whichever, by now.

As for the computer, my plan is to print the paperwork for the return at dad's tomorrow, and send the computer packing on Tuesday. Which means, I will once again miss the maji market (and now winterlights too) in Palia. :stare: It'll be the third missed market in a row and the second due to the computer being serviced.
