WHY are there scammers and cheaters in the world?
A while back my mom was robbed of a large sum via a phone call claiming to come from her bank.
Today someone hacked into my gmail and downloaded a bunch of apps to their own device and tried to make some in-app purchases. Luckily it seems they didn't go through, I guess they were made too soon after the password change. And I've reset the account, so I THINK it's all good. But it's still annoying. Like, they downloaded all my data which includes all emails sent to/from my gmail account. I don't think there's anything vital there, but still. Also it's very annoying that it's pretty much impossible to send Google a question about it - the only option I found was posting publicly on their help forum. I'd just like to know that my details are safe now and there's nothing more I can or need to do

That's why I don't like joining things. Or having a phone.
And in the accounts I do have the wallet only has access to funds from gift cards so there's not much for anyone to steal.

But you have inspired me to check my own gmail account....

well, just after I changed my paypal password (it uses the hacked email), I got 4 verification codes to my cellphone. And I wasn't trying to login. *sigh* Hopefully they gave up.

Yeah, it's a damn shame so many of those dumb #@%$ spend all that time trying to find ways to screw people over. Sad thing is, some of them are probably quite skilled, but would rather spend their life looking for easy ways to get over on others instead of doing something good with those talents. ... They would indeed deserve whatever those superpowers were capable of dishing out to them.

Yeah... although sometimes I have a feeling that all those scammers from Asia might just be small fry, some of them might not even know they're doing something that isn't legit (like the people who call you from numbers and hang up and if you call back it's costs a fortune - it wouldn't surprise me if someone else was the one making money from it, rather than the actual callers)
