I did a try. 
I'm pretty sure this is as far as this image is ever going to get, even if I did a doodle the other day and decided on what I wanted to do with the mirror reflection (vampire, not Doreen)
I think I need to take the time to experiment with custom brushes. The crayon is too coarse and the ink is too smooth

If you reduce the roughness of the canvas grain then everything becomes smoother.
