I do have a bit of bump on the fleshy bit using a stripey ring, wave texture but it's barely noticeable and doesn't really work when you can see it.
The wings need more work and the legs need to be attached to the body a bit better.
But it's so hard to stop it looking like a plastic toy.

(even if I don't know the correct spelling - my computer says this is the wrong spelling...)

I don't like either spelling. It's one of those words that always looks wrong.

Actually that looks wrong too, at least when everything else in in English

I abandoned the procedural bump map and tried to paint one using vertex colours but I didn't have enough vertices for it to show up at all. So then I went back and tried sculpting all the bumps into the geometry. This looks better but I still don't really have enough detail in the mesh to do that kind of thing and I can't remesh without losing the vertex colours.
But I may be able to do a subdivision modifier and get away with it.
Doesn't really look that different but...
I also experimented with doing a blackberry as an eye but that didn't look great either. I think you probably need to use an environment reflection thingy to get that kind of shading to look right.

I'd be inclined to retopo and UV it and then...
We don't do that kind of thing in this house.
EDIT: The subdividing has worked and is allowing a bit more detail in the geometry and the texture so I'm gonna start adding some brown spots now.

I got rid of the berry eyes and started to experiment by bruising the flesh and that seemed to work a little better...
It gives a vague impression of an eye without looking like a stupid thing stuck on it.
I wish I could get it a bit darker and more saturated but the subsurface effect limits how dark things can be.
