CGAN May 2018 - Mermayds

I like the idea of a steampunk mermaid as well. Only I think it'd have to be a human in steampunk equipment because I can't quite figure out why an actual mermaid would need breathing masks or underwater goggles or mechanical fins

and yeah I'll try to cover up pretty much everything with either corals or seaweed... (Fish are too complicated)

Two Day Alert!!!

Get finishing. There are plenty more fish in the sea. And I'm certainly using plenty of them.

meh. I keep having to redo things I'll be lucky to have more than a half finished mermaid at the end of the challenge...

shading and reshading and reshading some more. The face is too cartoony, the fins look like I dunno what. I started painting with colours until I realised I wanted to be able to change the colours without repainting the shading so I had to...repaint the shading... (it's a greyscale overlay layer at this point)

There's no way I'll make this what I want to make it, until the deadline, but here's where I'm at now:


EDIT 2: and yes, her right hand is way too small... Let's hope this infernal warm weather won't make me pass out all afternoon tomorrow...

Reworked the darn fish again and keep planning and forgetting to add more dorsal fins... (Speaking of fins they don't look too good this time around either but... oh well...I'm already gonna have to scrap the background if I want this to be finished tomorrow...

I was unhappy with the pattern on her torso and erased part of it but I seem to have forgotten to paint it back in. Guess I have to have something to do, tomorrow, if I'm scrapping the bg...



EDIT: and I've totally forgotten to make a pattern on the tail end...

Keep going! Nothing at all can go wrong. Nothing at all.

And both of of these look really good, the imaginative designs make my efforts look like... erm... like every other mermaid you've ever seen. (Assuming she ever emerges from behind the fish! )

Mama Nature is the imaginative one in my case...
