OK, I answered my own question by importing my eye into Blender and it's using the same values for IOR. 

Ior? what's he got to do with anything?

Maybe it's the scale of my model.
I usually don't bother noticing the values attached to the grid sizes so my orc is probably about 20m tall or something silly like that.

IOR= Index Of Refraction.

The scale might have something to do with it. My eye was modelled to real world size to match the material settings, my orc however is currently the size of Galactus due to Zbrush's funky scaling. That's why I did them separately for now, until my Orc is ready for non sculpty shenanigans. 

(p.s. dear god, setting up materials and rendering in blender is a nightmare,, that is all)

 

"that is all" is what the (ex) Fonz kept saying over the loud speakers in Medical Police. Presumably also in the series Children's Hospital (which MP spun off from...) but I haven't seen that series. Don't even know if it's on Netflix. And I'm on about this in the wrong thread anyway...
