And just what the heck am I doing wrong now? 
I've tried several a couple of times and with changing textures, to texturemap an item. I take a few faces at a time, to avoid the texture being stretched awkwardly, I view the texture while placing the faces/texturemap... and it still ends up completely wrong. WHY????

As usual when you whine a bit, things will sort themselves out shortly after. Turns out the material had the texture offset for some reason. Possibly cats. (I certainly didn't do it )

In Blender I quite like using the Node Wrangler addon cos when you import the image into the shader window you can just press CTRL-T and it automatically inserts the right texture coordinate nodes to make it easier to tweak.

Did I ever mention how annoying it os to search for genuine image references and only find 3D models? I want to know what the REAL thing looks like to make my models, not model after someone else's model!
