So I didn't work light to dark, I didn't stretch the paper beforehand (Pfft, never do that anyway!
And speaking of not stretching paper, I did actually paint in the paper cockling to emulate my real life laziness.

Depending on which of these choices you make ArtRage does allow you to work lighter tones over (or into) dark areas and it's initially very confusing.
The way I'm working at the moment (well, in that last pic) is to use two layers. One set to multiply that I use just for wet blended washes and a normal layer on top for more opaque details.
You can do it all on one layer by toggling the InstaDry option but I still keep forgetting whether I've left it on or off and angry frustration ensues.

Not with all that dried acrylic paint over the end of it it doesn't.
