Hatchery

Brief: Take the title and interpret it into a work of art.

Deadline: Monday the 1st of February at midnight (UTC).

Rules in brief:
- All challenge entries must be your own work.
- You should post at least two WIP images that are clearly different from your final entry and each other.
- Your final entry should contain your image (inserted so it shows up full size) and at least two links to your WIP posts on the forum.
- No chatter in the finals thread – if you have questions, post them in the WIP thread or PM an admin.
- Feedback is allowed & encouraged together with the voting and in the WIP thread.
- Deadline is given in UK time (midnight UTC) with a grace period of 5 minutes for getting the post sorted.
- Each member may cast one vote.
- No cheating! Admins may decide to disqualify an entry that does not adhere to the above rules.

Umm, not sure about this but it's something rather than nothing...







May abandon and try something else if it doesn't improve (I'm way too bad at doing edges for this kind of thing) but even if it does get better it certainly can't compete with furry cat egg.

You should definitely paint that.

Charlotte, as soon as I saw that I thought "ok, challenge is over! I'm voting for that one!".

And who cares what that is Val, its looking very cool already!

Im just doodling right now, I kind of liked the idea of 'the Hatchery' being a character but don't think this one really says it in the right way. Still, it was fun.

And here's the other direction I was heading in, which feels much more like a grown up painting.

I wonder if he is a hatchery staff or just a picnic basket for whatever hatches....?

Thanks Charlotte. Having gone over to the dark side recently he definitely would have been a picnic for the little hatchlings.

Ive taken the first one a little further....errrr....twice.

I've used a few anatomy refs as an underlay then sketched on top of them in an attempt to make the anatomy a little more believable.
Much happier with the result thought theres still some stuff to define on both.

I think I'll 'run' (pun intended) with the second of the two as I think the first is a little flat.

Really not sure about this one.
Still got a background to put in and I’m thinking of something along the lines of GW2 old concept art but I’ll see how it goes.

Looking good. I especially like the contrast with the colour of the eggs. It really draws your eye to them and that focus helps to sell the concept behind the character.

Mine still looks pretty much the same despite a few efforts to develop it further. I do struggle trying to define edges.
