Sapir's Sketchbook (Manga and Anatomy)

I just love anime and manga and when I tried to draw characters from imagination it would always look like this:



And now that I took it seriously and started practicing this is the result (Long image warning):

I would love to hear your thought, tips and critiqs.
What do you think of my way? (Drawing from reference, and then drawing it again and again [Or doing a tutorial and then doing it again and again])

Hey sapirlapid, great sketchbook, you're studies without reference are looking just like the ones with reference.
I really like the manga look too, might do a pic myself someday, look forward to seeing more progress, you're doing great so far!

the new IFX issue is all about manga, would be a good issue to give you some tips I would imagine.

I practiced today in my sketchbook.
I tried to practice different face angles, expressions and hairstyles!
At this rate, I'll be making my own manga in no time
(All from imagination !! )

Great job Sap! You're improving for sure, would look awesome with color, especially when manga has such vibrant colors, keep it up Are you working on body studies right now too? Would like to see some of those also.

I should really start practicing bodies but I'm not sure what's the best approach this subject..
I started learning about the bones and muscles names and shapes from Memrise but still didn't draw them..

Is it ok to just sit and draw each bone/muscle separately few times? Should I stick with formulas (8 heads, gesture etc.)? Should I do quick 30s sketches like some people do with 3d references?

Not perfect, I know.. I still need to practice.. And I'm pretty sure my sketchbook paper don't like the markers very much.
It bleeds and doesn't look right...

Looking good. If you're finding the markers to be bleeding too much to the other side try using a heavier/thicker paper such as bristol board paper. They cost more but are better suited for markers. Most sketchbooks are for pens or graphite pencils. Wish I could offer more advice on manga/anime but unfortunately I'm clueless in that field.

I'd really like to use the markers on a sketchbook and not on separate papers.

Not too sure about the first link if they're bleed proof but the second one looks good. Another thing you can do is just feel the paper with your hand. If it feels thick and sturdy then it's probably bleed proof. Also some sketchbooks have a chart inside them that tell you which paper is best suited for which media. Hope this helps!
