Non-sentient Alien Life Form

Brief: Depict an alien life form that is NOT "intelligent". It can be a plant or an animal or humanoid mushroom, as long as it's not capable of technological advances. I hope you get the idea. Otherwise ask me to clarify! /Charlotte

Hey all! Long time no see.
Ok so I’ve been watching this one incognito (along with all your other posts) but when I saw the finals I just had to log in to register my vote.
I want to vote for both but believe that may be against the rules.
These are both exceptional. The colours of both entries are absolutely beautiful, the concepts are fantastic and though the two images were created in entirely different ways they’re both technically excellent. Awesome stuff!

As far as the vote goes I’ll have to plump for Banj this month but only by the narrowest of margins.

A top quality piece of work.
I love the contrast between the bright spots and the rest of the body. It all looks authentically "alien" but still plausible as a living creature. Also the background is handled very well, especially how the colours repeat in the creature's skin, suggesting some evolutionary camoflage which only emphasizes how well the alien and the environment belong together.
And finally this pic clearly shows how real depth of field is ever-so-much-better than fake depth of field.

Valence.

The furriness around the body is very nicely done as are the branches, and the critter really stand out from the background. I'm glad you eventually got the fly thingy in there (I had intended to have another little critter/Frat-dinner in mine but spent way too long trying to come up with an environment to stick him in).

Love both, wonderful work Banj and Valence Couldn’t decide from visual appearence alone. Had to ask myself which is more ”alien”-looking in order to finally decide on Banjs spotted creature
