I made a moon using only procedural textures. :woohoo:

But when I put it in the background sky behind my god it looked ridiculous. :(

Therefore no moon behind god. :nope:

No moon for the challenge pic but I may as well post the moony version here...

I managed to get it glowing a bit more by mixing the previous textures with an emission shader but it just doesn't look right to me. It doesn't seem to fit with the stars and doesn't seem to look distant enough no matter how much I push it back and scale it.

Oh, and don't look too close at those teefies. They're not good.

Needs more teefies.

I love how you get all that wood detail just by modelling polygons. It has an elegance and efficiency that's very satisfying yet I never seem to have the patience for all that precise positioning of things.

Make one board.... duplicate.... many times. Done.

You could just do that with a texture and save on the amount of geometry required

Makes one board. Duplicates many times. Realises that the third one wasn't quite in the right place and has ruined the repeating pattern. Goes back. Starts duplicating again. Still can't get the last one to look right. Starts again. Turns on grid snapping. Still things don't line up. Realises I was zoomed in a little further at one point causing the board to snap to a smaller grid subdivision.
Gets fed up.
Goes back to sculpting lumpy things.

Banj - yes but it's not as much fun and also I can't for the life of me understand how to make "bump texture thingies". I don't like it when it's all flat, the shapes add interest.

Val - I guess it helps that I tend to adjust the coordinates or values for how much I move something by hand... Which is admittedly very tedious.

I was gonna post these links in the challenge finals thread with the wips but I was on my tablet at the time and it didn't want to behave so here seems a better place to post all the tutorials I followed for this thing...
